LAW351   Introduction to German Law   (20 credits)

Description

The module will provide a general introduction to the German legal system. In the first part the course will focus on constitutional law covering the main features of the current constitution in its historical context, in particular the fundamental rights and their enforcement. The second part will focus on private law in general, in particular the structure and mode of operation of the German Civil Code. Areas of substantive private law covered will include contract law, torts and unjust enrichment. The module does not require any knowledge of the German language. It is taught in English. All materials (textbooks, journal articles and statues) are also available in English.
